From my early days, I have always lived in a location where I watched airplanes passing overhead constantly. My home in South Boston is on the approach to Logan Airport so I see (To this day) aircraft on their final approach. During WWII there was also was a very active Naval Air Station at nearby Squantam. Is it any wonder that I wanted to fly those beautiful machines. I start with my adventures as a USAF Aviation Cadet where I flew the T-34 & T-28 trainers. I continue with Jet Pilot School where I flew the beautiful T-33. After I received my Wings and Commission I was privileged to fly the KC-135 Jet Tanker just after it first came into the Air Force. After almost eight years I started a 30 year period of flying the world with Trans World Airlines. I write about my adventures starting with the Constellation; the classic aircraft which Howard Hughes designed. I continue with those enjoyable years flying the 707 for 10 years, the 747 for almost 10 years, and as Captain in the Lockheed L-1011 until I retired at 60.

My best friend in Cadets passed away a short time ago. He had started a memoir which he did not complete. I always wished I had been able to read about my father’s life as a Merchant Mariner during the war. I started to write a few stories so that my children could see what their father was doing before they entered my world. The chapters added up as I read parts of them at the monthly meetings of The Writers Group of The South Boston Arts Association.

Those chapters became this book which is only part of what I want to tell my kids about my life; what is here is the limit that this size book can handle. I have more to write about my travels, the joys and sorrows of my family, and some of my early life. I hope to write Book two.
