On September 11, 2001, about 3,000 people were killed in the terrorist attacks on the United States. In New York City, seven buildings in the World Trade Center were destroyed, including the Marriott World Trade Center Hotel (or Three World Trade Center), the hotel that connected the North and South Towers. The Marriott Hotel was destroyed when the North and South towers collapsed on top of it, severing it in half.
Joyce Ng’s Hotel 9/11: An Oral History from Survivors of Three World Trade Center is the only book that chronicles the stories of the people who escaped from the 24-story Marriott World Trade Center hotel. Nearly 1,000 guests were registered at the hotel on September 11. Many stories that took place in the hotel are still unknown, but they provide significant insight into the history of 9/11.
Within these pages, you will find vivid eyewitness accounts from the people who miraculously escaped from the hotel. The book contains oral histories from firefighters, economists, lawyers, hotel guests, hotel employees and business travelers. Joyce Ng’s collection of history includes people who miraculously made it to safety. It speaks to the hotel survivors who were caught in the rubble, to the priest who narrowly escaped while in the gym on the top floor, to the heroes who risked their lives to rescue a disabled woman in a wheelchair, to firefighters who risked their lives to save others. There are many amazing stories, including Joyce Ng, the author of the book, who was a young women traveling on a business trip to the World Trade Center. This book touches upon the journey post-9/11 of uniting with other survivors, who move on despite seeing the worse in humanity.
There are many intimate accounts of courage and compassion demonstrated that day These are the stories that shape the history of 9/11 from a human perspective

“Within these pages you will read some of these types of stories from the survivors of the World Trade Center Marriott Hotel. Directly from the people who lived through the attacks, you will read remarkable accounts of hotel guests persevering through unfamiliar surroundings in the midst of immense terror and confusion, hotel employees helping to evacuate guests, firefighters responding to guide civilians through the danger. The survivors who share their stories here, and the thousands of others who escaped that day, provide crucial insight into the events of 9/11. Through them, we know of the bravery of the first responders, the professionalism of employees, and the compassion shown by perfect strangers. Through them, we know the story of 9/11 is more than just the story of terror and destruction that gripped the world’s attention. Through them, we know the actions taken in response to the attacks exhibit the best we have to offer one another, even in the very worst circumstances.
And that is a history worth preserving.”

About the Author
Joyce Ng is a survivor of the 9/11 attacks. On September 11, she was traveling to New York City on a business trip and was a guest at the Marriott World Trade Center hotel. As a young adult, she witnessed a major event that forever changed her life. On 9/11, when the first plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, she was in her room in the Marriott. The plane's landing gear fell onto the roof of the building, and the hotel caught on fire. While the hotel was burning, debris was falling around the area, and she witnessed people getting killed or injured.
Since then, Joyce founded a non-profit charity to unite survivors from this building. In the forefront of the 9/11 community, she serves as the voice of 9/11 survivors nationwide, bringing awareness to the physical and emotional trauma endured by those who survived the attacks.

Thank you Joyce for writing this book. The stories from he survivor of 9/11 Mariott hotel is compelling
The survivor stories are so real and it reflects the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Media does not do justice covering the horror and bravery of people who witnessed 9/11, from the survivors who saw the devastation first-hand to the sacrifices made.
I read pieces of this book and it wonderfully written and a testament to the bravery! The collection of stories from the people who escaped and survived is remarkable.
