Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls

A guy walks into a bar car and...

From here the story could take many turns. When the guy is David Sedaris, the possibilities are endless, but the result is always the same: he will both delight you with twists of humor and intelligence and leave you deeply moved.

Sedaris remembers his father's dinnertime attire (shirtsleeves and underpants), his first colonoscopy (remarkably pleasant), and the time he considered buying the skeleton of a murdered Pygmy. The common thread? Sedaris masterfully turns each essay into a love story: how it feels to be in a relationship where one loves and is loved over many years, what it means to be part of a family, and how it's possible, through all of life's absurdities, to grow to love oneself.

With Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls, David Sedaris shows once again why he is widely considered the "the funniest writer in America"

"Sedaris is a remarkably skilled storyteller and savvy essayist. He weaves together vivid images and sensations into a coherent whole that packs a serious emotional punch....Yes, David Sedaris is really that good. And based, on this latest collection, he's getting only better." —Los Angeles Times

FAQ:

Why not host the reading and signing at a bigger venue off-site? Mr. Sedaris loves doing book signings and readings in bookstores themselves, and for additional contractual reasons this was organized as an in-store event.

Can I listen to the reading if I don't buy a ticket? Due to the capacity of the store space, the reading itself (from 5 to 6pm) will be limited to ticket holders.

When will ticket holders receive their copies of the book? Copies of the book will be distributed to ticket holders when they arrive and check in for the event that afternoon.

If I don't buy a ticket, when can I join the signing line? We'll have a number system in place that evening for joining the signing line, and we'll be posting a timeline to our Twitter (@HarvardBooks) throughout the evening.

I can't come. Can I order a signed book? YES! We'll be taking orders for signed paperback copies of Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls only. Place your order (with the option for a personalized inscription) here. Please also see our signed event book FAQ.

Is Mr. Sedaris really going to stay and sign books for everyone? Yes, he's that awesome.
