Harvard Book Store welcomes Design*Sponge founder GRACE BONNEY and a panel of entrepreneurs and artists for a discussion of Bonney's latest book, In the Company of Women: Inspiration and Advice from over 100 Makers, Artists, and Entrepreneurs. With an introduction by photographer SASHA ISRAEL, Bonney will be joined by JOANNE CHANG, DANIELLE COLDING, JEN HILL, JILL ROSENWALD, and JONNA TWIGG.

About the Speakers

Grace Bonney is the founder of Design*Sponge, a daily website dedicated to the creative community. Design*Sponge was founded in 2004 and currently reaches nearly 2 million readers per day. A native of Virginia Beach, Bonney has worked as a contributing editor at publications such as House & Garden, Domino, and Craft magazine. She is passionate about supporting all members of the creative community; she runs an annual scholarship for up-and-coming designers, writes a free business column for creatives, and is the host of a weekly radio show, After the Jump, which reaches over 500,000 listeners per episode. Her first book, Design*Sponge at Home, is a national bestseller and has over 100,000 copies in print. After twelve years in Brooklyn, Bonney now lives in New York’s Hudson River Valley with her wife and their three pets.

Joanne Chang: An honors graduate of Harvard College with a degree in Applied Mathematics and Economics, Joanne left a career as a management consultant to enter the world of professional cooking. She is the chef and co-owner of Flour Bakery + Café, with four locations in the Boston area, and Myers + Chang, winner of the James Beard award for Outstanding Baker, as well as the author of Flour: Spectacular Recipes from Boston's Flour Bakery+Cafe, Flour, too: Indispensable Recipes for the Café’s Most Loved Sweets & Savories, and Baking with Less Sugar.

Danielle Colding is an interior designer and the founder of DCDNY. Danielle’s work has been published nationally and internationally and she is a budding television personality and design expert. A frequent contributor to philanthropic efforts including the Ronald McDonald House and DIFFA, Danielle is committed to both the design community and to giving back.

Jennifer Hill is an artist and designer based in Boston, Massachusetts. She is the founder of JHill Design, a studio that specializes in maps that combine beautiful geometric patterns patterns with geographic locations. She recently launched Run Ink, a brand devoted to running and a new line of marathon-themed maps.

Sasha Israel is a freelance photographer who splits her time between Brooklyn, NY and Boston, Massachusetts. Her work has been featured in Elle, Self, Teen Vogue, Apprecier and Bonberi.com. She loves dogs, Seinfeld, matzoh ball soup, and her tilt shift lens.

Jill Rosenwald is a ceramicist who was born in NYC. She got her start at summer camp designing macrame wall hangings and leather bracelets. After getting caught by NYC undercover cops for illegally selling on the streets, Jill went legit and showed her ceramics at the ACC craft market in West Springfield, MA. She hit it big with her first client, Neiman Marcus and after becoming a successful licensed designer she signed seven agreements in quick succession to design dinnerware, rugs, pillows, and more—including an agreement with Surya with whom she began her popular collection of Fallon rugs.

Jonna Twigg is the founder of Twigg’s Bindery, a modern atelier located in the heart of Brooklyn’s cultural district specializing in handmade luxury journals as well as everyday notebooks, custom editions, and albums. Spring 2016 marks the opening of Jonna’s Twigg’s Bindery classroom where everything from bookbinding and letterpress, to toy making and embroidery is taught.
