Harvard Book Store and 826 Boston welcome multitalented actor, writer, and musician JASON SEGEL and 826 Boston program coordinator KAREN SAMA for a reading, discussion, and signing of Segel's hilariously frightening middle-grade novel Nightmares! Tickets go on sale online only at jasonsegel.eventbrite.com on August 19 at 9am.

Nightmares! is the first book in a trilogy about a boy named Charlie and a group of kids who must face their fears to save their town, co-written with New York Times bestselling author Kirsten Miller.

Sleeping has never been so scary. And now waking up is even worse!

Charlie Laird has several problems.

1. His dad married a woman he is sure moonlights as a witch.
2. He had to move into her purple mansion, which is NOT a place you want to find yourself after dark.
3. He can’t remember the last time sleeping wasn’t a nightmarish prospect. Like even a nap.

What Charlie doesn’t know is that his problems are about to get a whole lot more real. Nightmares can ruin a good night’s sleep, but when they start slipping out of your dreams and into the waking world—that’s a line that should never be crossed.

And when your worst nightmares start to come true . . . well, that’s something only Charlie can face. And he’s going to need all the help he can get, or it might just be lights-out for Charlie Laird. For good.

Jason Segel

Well known for his work in television and film, actor, comedian, and screenwriter Jason Segel made his debut as a children's book author in 2014 with the first installment of his middle-grade trilogy Nightmares! (co-written by Kirsten Miller). The second in the series, Nightmares: The Sleepwalker Tonic, is due for publication in September 2015. Segel’s latest theatrical role in James Ponsoldt's dramatic biopic, The End of the Tour, as writer David Foster Wallace opposite Jesse Eisenberg, has received critical acclaim. Segel landed his first major leading role as Peter in Nicholas Stoller's Forgetting Sarah Marshall which he also wrote. He wrote a Dracula musical performed by puppets, a personal idea and passion he incorporated into the film, emboldening him to pitch his concept for a Muppets movie. He and Stoller wrote The Muppets, which won an Academy Award in 2012 for Best Original Song for "Man or Muppet," written by Bret McKenzie and performed by Segel. On television, Segel starred as Marshall on the CBS hit comedy series How I Met Your Mother.
