The New Center is pleased to welcome award-winning historian and television host SIMON SCHAMA for a presentation on his latest book and documentary, The Story of the Jews: Finding the Words 1000 BC-1492 AD.

Renowned historian and television host Simon Schama talks about his monumental new documentary, The Story of the Jews, which will air on WGBH this spring. In this five-part series, Schama spans the globe — from New York to Odessa, Berlin to Jerusalem — to tell the story of the Jewish people from their first emergence as a distinct group 3,000 years ago to the present day. The documentary, which was broadcast by the BBC this fall, has been hailed as a landmark television event. Schama will talk about how both his scholarship and his own family history inspired him to tell this epic story. Schama is a Professor of Art History and History at Columbia University. His television work for the BBC and PBS includes the Emmy-nominated "A History of Britain" and the eight-part series "The Power of Art." His new book, The Story of the Jews: Finding the Words (1000 BCE - 1492), is the first of a two-volume companion book to the documentary.

Please note the updated location is Hall C at Harvard Science Center. The New Center is offering free parking at the garage at 52 Oxford St. for ticket holders. Organized by the New Center. Presented in partnership with Harvard University Center for Jewish Studies, Harvard Hillel, Harvard Book Store, and WGBH.
