Small Business Saturday, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, has become part of the country's annual holiday shopping tradition. It's a day to encourage people across the country to support small, local businesses. Locally owned and independently run since 1932, Harvard Book Store is pleased to be a part of this celebration.

HBS I Shop Small StickerPick up our very own "I Shop Small" sticker at the registers when you shop at Harvard Book Store this Small Business Saturday and wear it with pride!

What is Small Business Saturday?

Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country. Founded by American Express in 2010, this day is celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Small Business Saturday is an effort to encourage community members to "Shop Small"—to keep their communities thriving by choosing to shop at the small businesses in their neighborhoods. While Small Business Saturday is highlighted as a special day when we can show our support as a nation for small business owners and our communities, the Shop Small Movement is a year-round campaign to celebrate and support small businesses every day.

How Can I Participate?

By shopping or dining at small businesses throughout the year, you're showing your support for the small businesses in your neighborhood in the community you call home. Invite friends to shop with you, or share on your social networks where you #ShopSmall. Find new small businesses in your community through the Shop Small Map

Shop Small Selfie Contest

Small business organization Independent We Stand is also inviting customers to snap a selfie in front of their favorite local store! Share your selfie on Independent We Stand’s Facebook page for the chance to win one of five $100 American Express gift cards. Participants are asked to use the hashtag #ShopSmallSelfie in their posts. Independent We Stand launched the contest on November 4 to promote small, independently owned businesses while asking consumer fans to show their support with creativity and community involvement. Now through December 22, customers can post selfies in front of as many local businesses as they wish; each photo will be counted as one entry as long as it includes a different business. One winner will be announced each week beginning November 23.

Benefits for American Express Card Holders

This holiday season customers can enroll their credit cards here for double points on purchases made at any registered small business through the end of the year.
