"the bee", a spelling bee extravaganza

Harvard Book Store is excited to announce that on Thursday, October 5th we will co-host "the bee" a spelling bee extravaganza with Houghton Mifflin and the Brattle Theatre. This special evening will feature two "bees": one all-ages and one for adults, as well as a special screening of A Boy Named Charlie Brown. Steve Kleinedler, senior editor at the American Heritage Dictionary, as well as editor of the brand new book 100 Words to Make You Sound Smart, will be our judge for the evening.

What do you get when you combine an over-educated populace, beer, and the lure of fabulous prizes? Answer: T-H-E B-E-E

Pit your skills against the best (or at least most-confident) spellers in Boston at this special event to raise money for the Brattle Film Foundation. The evening starts at 6 p.m., with an All-Ages Bee (aka for young people). Afterwards, join us for a 7:30 screening of the classic A Boy Named Charlie Brown, in which Charlie Brown makes his way to the national spelling bee finals.

Then, at 9:30, the big guns (and the beer) come out, with the Adult Bee. Competition fee for the Adult Bee is $5, which and includes a copy of 100 Words to Make You Sound Smart which you can feverishly study before taking the stage.

Spelling Bee Contestants will be eligible to win the following fabulous prizes, courtesy of Harvard Book Store, the Brattle Theatre, and Houghton Mifflin:

A fashion-forward Harvard Book Store T-shirt and bag;

Movie passes to the historic Brattle Theatre;
