SALMAN RUSHDIE
speaking at Harvard University's Memorial Church
SOLD OUT!

Harvard Book Store is excited to particpate in an Evening with Salman Rushdie sponsored by the American Humanist Association and the Harvard Humanist Chaplaincy.

Part of the Humanist Chaplaincy's 30th Anniversary Conference, Rushdie's appearance coincides with his receipt of the first annual Lifetime Achievement Award for Humanism in Culture. After being presented with the award, Rushdie will speak and offer a special literary reading. Pre-signed copies of his latest novel, Shalimar The Clown, will be available for purchase, courtesy of Harvard Book Store. Both the award ceremony and reading are open to the public. Please note that Mr. Rushdie will not be doing a signing at the event.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is being presented to Rushdie in recognition of the "inspiring impact he has made on world culture and for creating Humanistic beauty in the world through literature rather than merely attacking religion." The award will be presented by the Humanist Chaplaincy and the American Human Association and introduced by Daniel Meanker, Editor-in-Chief of Random House Books.

The Humanist Chaplaincy at Harvard has long been among the most distinct institutions serving the non-religious community, and its 30th Anniversary Conference marks its decades-long committment to a non-theistic philosophy that allows for understanding and respect between believers in God and atheists. Between April 20th and April 22nd, the conference will host some of the greatest thinkers of our times, including not only Salman Rushdie, but Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, two-time Pulitzer Prize-wining scientist E.O. Wilson, and renowned psychology professor and author Steven Pinker. Humanist congresstional lobbyist Lori Lipman Brown, of the Secular Coalition for America, will also speak, and singer-songwriter Dar Williams will perform a private concert for conference attendees. For those interested in attending the conference at large, tickets and further information are available at Harvard Humanist.
