Harvard Book Store is delighted to welcome cooking gurus LIDIA BASTIANICH and JUDITH JONES for an evening of the literary and culinary arts.

In Lidia Cooks from the Heart of Italy, Lidia Bastianich translates recipes from regions across Italy to the American kitchen, and shows the rich variety of Italian cooking.

And in The Pleasures of Cooking for One, Judith Jones demonstrates that cooking for yourself presents unparalleled possibilities for both pleasure and experimentation.

"Bastianich's cookbooks are always expert, cared-for creations, and this one is no different. It's fun to read through the dishes and discover, for instance, that the food of Trentino-Alto Adige shares many flavors with neighboring Austria--like dumplings with speck, whole-grain spaetzle, and roast chicken with beer. The book is dense with recipes, most of them earthy, peasant-food affairs. Particularly rewarding are the informative little interludes about each region, written by Tanya Bastianich Manuali, Lidia's daughter, and including ephemera like where to shop for candy-coated almonds in Abruzzo." —The Village Voice

"In The Pleasures of Cooking for One, Jones's new cookbook, she shares solo cooking advice alongside elegant recipes tweaked to serve one. Some of the recipes school cooks on how to extend one dish into a "second round": Leftovers from Moroccan-style lamb shanks are reincarnated in couscous with lamb, onions and raisins. Others, like her "Steamed Eggs Nestled in a Bed of Greens," are so brilliantly simple—stir-fried greens become an edible cooking vessel for the tender eggs—that we can't wait for our next dinner for one." —Tasting Table
