How to Place an Order for Curbside Pickup

  • Place your order and complete your transaction at harvard.com. When checking out, choose “curbside pickup” as the delivery method.

  • We will email you pickup instructions with the subject line “It’s Ready!” once your order has been processed and prepared. (Please note, we may need to order in books to complete your order so processing times will vary. For in-stock books, please allow us at least 1-2 days to process the order.)

  • Please note our current curbside pickup hours of operation (above!) when planning your visit.

  • For the safety of you and our staff, masks or face coverings are a must when picking up your books. Our staff will also be wearing masks.

  • You can pick up your books by car or by foot/bike.

Picking up by car? 

  • Pull up next to Harvard Book Store on Plympton St or in front of the store on Mass Ave

  • Text “curbside pickup” to us at 617-661-1515 when you arrive, and please include your full name, a description of your car, and your location

  • With the safety of you and our staff in mind, we will not hand you your order. Please stay in your car and pop the trunk. Our bookseller will put your books in the trunk. You’re all set! 

  • Please note: if you are unable to pop the trunk, please use our “picking up by foot” instructions.

Picking up by foot or bike?

  • Text “curbside pickup” to us at 617-661-1515 when you arrive, and please include your full name

  • Come to the “curbside pickup” station at the store’s front door. Please use appropriate social distancing while you wait. Stand behind the designated line until we have put out your order.

  • Please don’t approach the table until we have returned inside and closed the door.

Thank you for your cooperation around these requirements, which keep us all safer. If unable to follow these guidelines and safety standards, please choose to have your books shipped. We reserve the right to cancel an order if guidelines for pickup cannot be followed. Thank you for your understanding, your support, and your continued patronage.

Curbside Pickup FAQ

I placed an online order to be shipped to my home, can I change it to be curbside pickup? 

  • Previously placed orders cannot be changed to curbside pickup, as many of these orders are being shipped directly from the distributor.

Can I place an order over the phone or by email?

  • At this time, orders can only be placed at harvard.com and must be paid for in advance with a credit card. Stay tuned for an expansion to phone hours.

I placed an order with in-stock books as well as books that have to be ordered. Can I pick-up the part of my order that is in stock before the items that need to be ordered?

  • To limit physical interaction, we will wait until all items on your order are in stock before contacting you for curbside pickup. If you are placing orders for books that have different availability (i.e “in-stock” vs. “available at distributor”) and want to pick them up separately, please place them as separate orders.

I just placed an order for an in-stock item. How long before I can pick it up? 

  • Please allow us at least 1-2 days to process the order. Once the order is ready for pick-up, we will email you with a confirmation and instructions. Once you receive email confirmation that your order is ready for curbside pickup, you will have two weeks to come by and pick it up, unless other arrangements are made.

I just placed an order for an out-of-stock item. How long before it will be ready for pick-up? 

  • We will process your order within 1-2 days and email you with an estimate for how long we think it will take for the item(s) to arrive. Please keep in mind that these are only estimates and that there have been delays in shipping from vendors due to safety standards put in place across the country.

I have paid books on hold from before you shut down in March. Can I pick those up?

Can I still order online to have shipped to my home even if I’m local? 

  • Yes indeed! Media mail orders are FREE with over $60 in purchases.
