Harvard Book Store is pleased to welcome award-winning poet and memoirist NICK FLYNN for a discussion of his new memoir, The Reenactments. Mr. Flynn will be joined in conversation by Boston Globe film critic and author of Gods Like Us: On Movie Stardom and Modern Fame, TY BURR.
For Nick Flynn, that game we all play—the who-would-play-you-in-the-movie-of-your-life game—has been resolved. The Reenactments chronicles the surreal experience of being on set during the making of the film Being Flynn, from his best-selling memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, and watching the central events of his life reenacted: his father's long run of homelessness and his mother's suicide. Flynn tells the story of Robert De Niro's first meeting with his real father in Boston and of watching Julianne Moore attempt to throw herself into the sea. The result is a mesmerizingly sharp-edged and kaleidoscopic literary tour de force as well as a compelling argument about consciousness, representation, and grief.
The discussion will be followed by a screening of Being Flynn. Tickets for the film screening are sold separately and available through the Brattle.
A limited number of combo tickets are available, and discounted tickets will be available for purchase the night for event ticket holders.
Online ticket sales have now ended. Tickets are still available at Harvard Book Store and over the phone at 617-661-1515.
Please note that your ticket ONLY guarantees you a seat until five minutes before an event begins. $5 tickets are also coupons, good for $5 off a purchase at events or at Harvard Book Store. Coupons expire one month after the event, and cannot be used for online purchases, event tickets, or gift certificates. Additionally, tickets purchased online may only be picked up at the venue the night of the event, and cannot be picked up in-store beforehand.
Walking from the Harvard Square T station: 10 minutes
As you exit the station, cross Mass. Ave. and proceed along Brattle St. Follow Brattle St. as it curves to the right in Brattle Square (follow the sidewalk on the right side of the street). The Brattle will be on the left-hand side of the street. The building is shared with Algiers Cafe and Alden & Harlow Restaurant, and the theatre entrance is on the left side of the building—look for the sidewalk poster case and marquee.
