Harvard Book Store welcomes graphic novelist and Harvard University visiting professor PETER KUPER and renowned Argentinian comics artist LINIERS for a presentation of their books Ruins and Macanudo #3.

On Ruins:

Samantha and George are a couple heading towards a sabbatical year in the quaint Mexican town of Oaxaca. For Samantha, it is the opportunity to revisit her past. For George, it is an unsettling step into the unknown. For both of them, it will be a collision course with political and personal events that will alter their paths and the town of Oaxaca forever.

In tandem, the remarkable and arduous journey that a Monarch butterfly endures on its annual migration from Canada to Mexico is woven into Ruins. This creates a parallel picture of the challenges of survival in our ever-changing world.

Ruins explores the shadows and light of Mexico through its past and present as encountered by an array of characters. The real and surreal intermingle to paint an unforgettable portrait of life south of the Rio Grande.

On Macanudo #3:

Macanudo #3 is the newest volume of Liniers's daily comic strip, and the drawing and vision are more gorgeous than ever. Like volumes #1 and #2, this new collection is marked by existential wit, a playful sensibility, and a probing mind. Dive in for more Henrietta and her cat Fellini; more Mandlebaum, the teddy bear; more sensitive robot, and much else besides!

Liniers

Ricardo “Liniers” Siri is an Argentine cartoonist who is beloved in Latin America for his wildly successful decade-long comic strip Macanudo, published in the prestigious Buenos Aires newspaper La Nación, and for his colorful, on-stage concert collaborations with Grammy-nominated musician Kevin Johansen. Liniers has also created outstanding picture books for TOON Books, with Françoise Mouly. Liniers has created well over 3,600 published comic strips, has published over twenty-five books in Spanish, and has published more than ten books in nine countries, from Brazil to France, Italy, and the Czech Republic. His first book to be published in English, The Big Wet Balloon, has been both a critical and popular success was nominated for an Eisner award and was selected as a best book of 2013 by Parents Magazine.

Peter Kuper

Peter Kuper has created over a dozen graphic novels, including The System, Sticks and Stones, and an adaptation of Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis. He is co-founder of the political graphics magazine World War 3 Illustrated and since 1997 has written and drawn "Spy Vs Spy" for MAD Magazine. He has been teaching comics courses for over 25 years in New York City and is a visiting professor at Harvard University.

As you exit the station, reverse your direction and walk east along Mass. Ave. in front of the Cambridge Savings Bank. Cross Dunster St. and proceed along Mass. Ave for three more blocks. You will pass Au Bon Pain, JP Licks, and TD Bank. Harvard Book Store is located at the corner of Mass. Ave. and Plympton St.

Call us at (617) 661-1515 and one of our booksellers will take your order. Specify you'd like a signed copy.
If you are requesting a personalized inscription and/or requesting your book be shipped, we'll need to take down credit card information. If you are planning to pick up the signed book in the store, you can pay on pick-up.

FAQ:

Can I request a personalized inscription?
Unless otherwise noted, we are happy to take requests for the author to sign your book to a specific person, but we can't guarantee it. If you do get a personalized inscription, the book will be non-returnable. We will require credit card information when you place the order.

Do signed books cost more?
There is no extra fee for a signed book!

Do I have to pick it up in the store, or can you deliver my signed book?
As with all web or phone orders, we can hold your book for in-store pickup, or ship it anywhere in the country.

I am planning to attend an author event. Do I need to pre-order a book?
No need. We'll be selling books at the event, and nearly all of our events include a signing at the end of the talk.
