What Just Happened: Writers Discuss the Post-Election Moment

Harvard Book Store's virtual event series welcomes acclaimed writers and thinkers STEPHEN GREENBLATT, MARTHA MINOW, TIMOTHY SNYDER, and MARIAMA WHITE-HAMMOND for a panel discussion exploring the post-election moment. The discussion will be moderated by National Book Award-winning writer and novelist JAMES CARROLL. About Author(s)

James Carroll is the author of twelve novels, and eight works of non-fiction. For twenty-three years, he wrote an oped column for The Boston Globe, and his work has appeared in The New YorkerThe Atlantic, and other publications. He has received the National Book Award, the PEN Galbraith Award, and the Scripps Howard Award. In 2021, he will publish The Truth at the Heart of the Lie: How the Catholic Church Lost its Soul. He lives in Boston with his wife, the writer Alexandra Marshall.

Rev. Mariama White-Hammond, the Founding Pastor of New Roots AME in Dorchester, is an advocate for ecological & social justice, youth engagement, and Spirit-filled organizing. Rev. Mariama is active in secular and interfaith justice efforts. In particular, she challenges folks to see the connections between immigration and climate change or the relationship between energy policy and economic justice.

Martha Minow is a University Professor at Harvard and former Dean of its Law School. She teaches and writes about constitutional law and human rights. Her most recent book is When Should Law Forgive?. She served as a Clerk to Justice Thurgood Marshall of the United States Supreme Court.

Stephen Greenblatt is Cogan University Professor of the Humanities at Harvard University. He is the author of fourteen books, including Tyrant: Shakespeare on PoliticsThe Rise and Fall of Adam and Eve; and Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare. His book The Swerve: How the World Became Modern won both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.

Timothy Snyder is the Levin Professor of History at Yale University and the author of, among other books, Our MaladyOn Tyranny, and The Road to Unfreedom. He has received the Hannah Arendt Prize, the Literature Award of the American Academy of Arts & Letters, and the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding.
